Reflection

Looking back, this project was fun, and I would do it all over again if I could.  Learning the fundamentals of making a short film and putting a huge emphasis on the opening is very important for students who are interested in getting into the film workforce. This project was very good at testing my time management that's for sure but having to keep up with a weekly blogging schedule definitely is going to prepare us kids for the real world. My favorite part of this project was creating the credits and figuring out where exactly each credit should be placed.

Where have I been?

Hello there blog. It's been a little while. For the past 6 days, I have been fortunate enough to go to Long Beach California and compete at a national level competition called Student Televison Network. STN is a hub for an abundant of competitions suited to students and schools from all over the country. The competition that I along with over 20 other students competed in, is Crazy 8 News Magazine.

For crazy 8 news magazine, our team had 8 hours to write, edit, film, and produce an 8-minute show consisting of 3 news segments, a public service announcement, and anchor tosses. We placed third in the country with our finished product.

This competition has also taught me things that are important to use for projects, especially my film opening. Learning how to create a very detailed package in only 8 hours just shows the time management you need to have in order to be successful.

Genre Research

While meeting with Mrs. Stocklosa , she recommended that I watch the movie, "The Hate U Give".

This movie is a 2018 coming of age drama directed by George Tillman Jr. After doing research upon how this movie can help provide us with information how to improve "Trey's split", this is what I found.

"The Hate U Give" offers a sad narrative that intersects with themes commonly found in coming-of-age films centered around black youth. "The Hate U Give" focuses on the protagonist, Starr Carter, as she navigates her identity through her predominantly black neighborhood and her predominantly white prep school. This is very similar to the life of Trey that we are trying to portray in our opening.

"The Hate U Give" effectively portrays the coming-of-age experience through the lens of a black teenager, addressing issues of identity, social justice, and personal growth.

Storyboard

Above is the completed story board! Noa and I wanted to make it very detailed that way it would be easier for us in the filming process. Noa and I aren't the best artists lol but we tried our best. The shots drawn of character Trey biking; I am going to attempt to film this shot in the trunk. We would have someone drive and I would sit in the trunk and get a front shot of Noa riding his bike as the car slowly moves forward.

Also, it does not specify in the storyboard, but we are going to try and get creative with how the shots are filmed. Including rack focuses, peculiar angles, all that jazz.

Props for "Trey's Split"

Hey Blog. We have made an amazon purchase!   The main character has a scene where he speaks about how he has been called many names in his life.  Below is an excerpt from the script

Name’s Trey. Or Carlton. Or Token Black Guy. Or whatever condescending name you feel like callin’ me.

NAME TAGS WITH TREY’S VARIOUS NAMES ON THEM PILE ON EACH OTHER AS HE LISTS THEM OUT.

             We Purchased NAMETAGS

These nametags fit right in with the comic book look and feel that Noa and I are trying to give this opening. These flashy name tags were $8 and they come in a pack of 200 but realistically, Noa and I will probably only wind up using 10 maximum.

We are going to write names on the nametags and the nametags are going to pile on top of one another as trey says them.
