Script

The script is very close to being done ; just a couple perfections away.

Here is the link to the script

So . Lets go ahead and break it down.

Scene 1 begins outside, specifically at basketball courts (I will mention location scouting in a future blog post) The first time the film introduces Trey is as he is biking alongside the courts looking fairly pissed. This shot will be a close up mainly to establish the fact this opening will have a lot of  personal shots to feel more connected with Trey.

The next scene continues with Trey speaking to the camera giving context and back round to his character. Then, a quick flash will appear and there will be a cut to a flashback. This flashback will occur in a hallway and it will be an interaction with the bully that will provide further context.

Who should act?

 Who is going to act?

This is a major part of Noa and I's planning but fortunately , the search for actors is over. (Mostly)

So Trey is the main character of this film and we have decided that NOA will be playing TREY.

Noa has previous acting experience and is a good fit to play Trey in our opening.

The other acting spot that has been is the role of the bully . The bully will have a couple seconds of screen time and will have an interaction with Trey.

This spot is going to be filled by ADEN

The reason for me saying that the hunt for actors is MOSTLY over is because there are other acting spots that need to be filled but its extras. Extras are important but we are focusing less attention on these as e have ideas in mind of who could fill the roles of extras.

That's it for this blog . I will see you all next time :)

First portfolio project post

Hello there. I have officially decided to work on the film opening with my Friend Noa.

The title of our film opening will be called "Trey's Split"

Trey's Split is about a teenage male who is trying to find his group in life as he considers himself to black to hang with the white kids and to white to hang with the black kids . At heart , Trey is an artist who is unable to accept it. The genre of this piece will be coming of age + comedy.

I have worked on comedy films before as an actor and a cinematographer

Acting in a comedy film: A lot of the acting comes from the director. Obviously, if the actor has previous experience acting that definitely helps. But acting is one of the most crucial parts of the film opening as the actor/actress is the one portraying the story that Noa and I are looking to tell. So looking for an actor will definitely be an important part of pre production for us.

Camera Work in a comedy film: The genre does not necessarily play a huge role in how the opening is shot although, Noa and I are going for a coming of age story so it is important for us to get close ups of Trey in order to feel closer and more connected to the character.

I plan on being the DP(Director of Photography) of this film and I am excited to get creative with the shots and try out new things.

Intro to Portfolio Project

Hello there. Tis the season where all aice media students' life's start getting a bit more hectic. I am tasked with starting to plan and approach this project at full force.

Here is my experience working with films :

Actor , Producer, writer .

This will be my first time directing a film opening and I am leaning towards taking the comedic approach. I would consider myself a very funny person and I believe that I would be very good at creating a script for a comedy film opening .

Some of  my favorite parts of movies are the unexpected twists that get thrown in . And yes I know I know that this film opening is to not have a resolution and to be 2 minutes, however, I feel that I my film opening can be a comedic short with a twist of drama.

A movie that I quite enjoy that has a good film opening is Jaws. I believe this is a good opening because of 2 things :

  1. Effective Use of Sound: The scene utilizes effective sound design. The music, creates a sense of danger. The score intensifies the suspense as the shark approaches.

  2. Point-of-View Shots: Through the clever use of point-of-view shots, the audience is placed in the perspective of the shark, witnessing its movements from beneath the water. This technique shows a sense of unease and makes the threat feel immediate.

Music Marketing #2

After finishing the Music Marketing project, it is time to reflect upon the process as a whole. The research was very useful and important for us because it gave us a lot of back round knowledge and was helpful to us when creating the presentation.

Here is the link to our research chart :)

MUSIC VIDEO

For reference , here is the music video my group and I created.

SheldonVitorioKerbervandam.mp4

I am not going to lie, brainstorming and planning was a bit of a struggle for us at first because we were undecisive on what we wanted to do. Gio, the director, had a vision that we liked and trusted so we went along and created the storyboard to help us during production . Production went really well for us as a matter of fact. We were quick during filming and able to get the shots we wanted to with the use of colorful lighting and a dolly on the tripod. Post Production wise , the editing went super smooth and our video contained many special effect that our group really wanted to implement.

PRESENTATION

BRAKE CHECK CAMPAIGN (1).mp4

Here is the link to the presentation. The whole goal was for the presentation to 10 ish minutes and our group was able to get to the 9:40 mark which I was very happy with. We had roughly 11 slides and each slide features a voice recording of one the members of our group explaining the slide. Each slide had a purpose and was able to show everything from genre, target audience , distribution , socials, to the campaign as a whole.

Overall, I learned a lot from this project that I think will carry over to future projects. An aspects of this project that  will be helpful to me when developing my Cambridge portfolio, is storyboarding. The film opening is and has to be very meticulous and storyboarding is perfect for making everything in production just a bit easier for the director.
